Lipolysis in Istanbul
Lipolysis is considered for selected localized fat concerns after medical assessment and realistic expectation planning.
Suitability depends on the treatment area, skin quality, medical history and whether the concern is localized fat or another tissue issue.
What is lipolysis?
Lipolysis refers to non-surgical approaches used to target selected localized fat concerns in suitable patients.
It is not a weight-loss method. Planning should focus on localized contour concerns and realistic expectations.
What is assessed before lipolysis?
The area is checked to understand whether it is suitable for a localized treatment plan.
Skin laxity and tissue quality affect expected contour improvement.
Medical history and contraindications are reviewed before treatment.
Consultation and treatment process
Before treatment, your medical history, expectations, facial anatomy and skin quality are reviewed. The aim is to create a plan that fits your features rather than applying a standard protocol.
- Initial assessment and suitability check
- Discussion of realistic outcomes and alternatives
- Physician-led treatment planning
- Clear aftercare recommendations and follow-up when needed
Aftercare and when to contact the clinic
After lipolysis, follow the clinic’s guidance about activity, massage if recommended, hydration and follow-up. Report unusual pain, redness or swelling.
Contact the clinic if you notice increasing pain, unusual color change, severe swelling, signs of infection or any symptom that does not feel normal for you.
Frequently asked questions
Is lipolysis for weight loss?
No. It is considered for selected localized contour concerns, not general weight loss.
Which areas can be treated?
Possible areas depend on examination and medical suitability.
When are results seen?
Timing varies by method, area and individual response. This should be discussed during consultation.
Where can injection lipolysis be considered?
The suitability of any injectable fat-reduction treatment depends on the active ingredient and its authorised indication—not simply on the presence of fat. Patients frequently ask about the chin, abdomen, arms and flanks, but these areas are anatomically different and must not be treated as interchangeable.
For example, in the United States, deoxycholic acid injection is approved for selected adults with moderate-to-severe submental fullness (fat under the chin). It is not approved by the FDA for use elsewhere on the body. Turkish product authorisations must be checked independently; US approval does not establish approval in Türkiye.
Fat, skin laxity and facial structure: why diagnosis matters
A double chin or poorly defined jawline may be related to submental fat, skin laxity, chin projection, neck muscle bands or a combination of these factors. Reducing fat cannot correct every cause. In some patients with limited skin elasticity, reducing volume without considering the skin envelope may lead to an unwanted contour.
The same principle applies to body-contouring concerns. Cellulite is not identical to localised fat accumulation, and treating fat alone may not resolve skin dimpling. A medical assessment should identify the main tissue concern before selecting an intervention.
Possible side effects and complications
Depending on the drug and treatment site, injections can cause swelling, bruising, tenderness, numbness and firm areas or nodules. More serious reactions can include infection, tissue damage, ulceration and nerve-related symptoms. After certain under-chin injections, an asymmetric smile, unusual facial weakness or difficulty swallowing needs prompt medical evaluation.
In a September 2026 safety communication, the FDA warned about serious adverse events associated with deoxycholic acid use outside the submental region and about injection-site nodules or masses, some of which may persist and require further treatment.
How many sessions are needed, and how long does recovery take?
There is no single evidence-based session schedule for every product or anatomical area. Changes may take weeks to assess and initial swelling can obscure the appearance. Follow-up is based on the ingredient, treatment response and individual safety considerations. Repeating injections on a fixed calendar without reassessment is not appropriate.
Before deciding, ask for the exact product name, its approved indication, known adverse effects, alternatives and the clinic’s follow-up process. If an area or product is not supported by sufficient evidence, choosing not to proceed can be the safer option.
